Built in 1875, this large stone mansion is said to have been the winter retreat of the Bryson family, who hosted many distinguished guests, including Sir Wilfrid Laurier, the Prime Minister of Canada.

With Bryson’s Bistro du Bucheron and the Pontiac Conference Centre, Spruceholme Inn is the perfect location to host a meeting, conference, retreat or social event. Conveniently located an hour and 15 minutes from Ottawa, and 35 minutes from Pembroke, Fort Coulonge provides a quick getaway from the city to a serene and relaxing destination.

History of Spruceholme

Spruceholme is the splendid former home of George Bryson Jr., his wife Helen Craig and their nine children. Built in 1875 by George Bryson Sr., this large stone mansion was lived in by the family until 1937. Following in the footsteps of his father, who served for 21 years, George Bryson Jr. represented the Pontiac County in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec, where he served for over 49 years.

Adjacent to Spruceholme is another splendid stone mansion. This house was once the home of John Bryson, the older son of George Bryson Sr., who represented the Pontiac as an MP under Sir John A. MacDonald, who visited the home.

After 1937, Spruceholme was used in the summer months by the Bryson family. In 1996, it was purchased by Glenn and Marlene Scullion, who transformed it into an inn. In July 2012, the great, great grand daughter of George Bryson Senior, Jane (Toller) Pitfield, purchased Spruceholme. She had visited her grandmother Frances (Bryson) Toller there in the summer from 1954 to 1972.

Jane has expanded accommodations at Spruceholme Inn: 7 rooms in Spruceholme, 3 rooms in the Carriage house, 2 new cabins for a total of 4 rooms, and in addition, the Bryson Home next door (200 rue principale), has 7 rooms. The total of 40 rooms is ideal for social events and conferences. Jane built Bryson’s Bistro du Bûcheron in 2013 and the Pontiac Conference Centre in 2014.

Bryson’s Bistro du Bucheron can accommodate up to 84 guests. With its rustic ambiance and intimate setting, it would be the perfect location for lunch, dinner or a smaller meeting.

Connected to the bistro is the newly built Pontiac Conference Centre , which can accommodate up to 400 people, at rounds of 10. The PCC has crystal chandeliers, 16 foot ceilings, a beautiful Victorian oak bar, old wooden floors and a new audiovisual system which ties elegance, history and the 21st century together seamlessly into the ideal meeting space!

Our 2 boardrooms located in Spruceholme provide the perfect setting for break-out rooms or for smaller, more private meetings. We are pleased to provide the following items at no additional cost:

Guestrooms and Amenities

Between Spruceholme Inn, John Bryson House, the Cabins and the Carriage house, we are pleased to offer 21 rooms with queen or twin beds. Prices are subject to availability and discounted rates will apply for meetings and other events. Our regular prices range between $105.00 and $145.00 per night, based on single or double occupancy. This price includes a hot breakfast. Taxes are additional.

Spruceholme Inn has a sauna and hot tub, available year round for our guests to enjoy. In the summer, come join us for a drink on the patio, or relax with a book in some of our Muskoka chairs.

We own a 2 acre property where the Coulonge and Ottawa rivers meet, which features a beach, swimming area, as well as a place to launch kayaks and canoes. We would be happy to provide boxed lunches so you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon, or some delightful campfire snacks, as you watch the sunset.
